MUSEU DO CARIBE

O novo Museu do Caribe, em Barranquilla, Colômbia, faz parte do complexo do Parque Cultural, no qual também se localizam o Centro Histórico, o Paseo de Bolívar e aonde se pretende construir o Centro de Convenções e Feiras.

O museu é dividido em seis pisos, com cinco temas definidos, nos quais se retratam os mitos, as tradições, a natureza e a identidade cultural dos países caribenhos. O museu pretende provocar uma permanente reflexão sobre o passado e o futuro, apresentando o Caribe através de novas tecnologias e ferramentas educativas.

A primeira sala, dedicada à Natureza, mostra a diversidade dos ecossistemas da região, recebendo o visitante com a projeção de espetaculares imagens. Um corredor conta a impressionante história de sua formação geológica.

Na sala dedicada à Gente, o assunto é a formação étnica dos habitantes, com destaque aos primeiros habitantes e os processos de mestiçagem e diálogo entre culturas.

Na área que fala da Palavra, dá-se destaque para a riqueza da tradição oral e da produção literária da região caribenha. Nesta sala também, uma amostra da contribuição que a literatura do Caribe Colombiano representa para a nação. Nesse espaço, uma sala mágica, dedicada a Gabriel Garcia Marques, que será inaugurada a seguir, retoma o cenário e a obra de uma das maiores expressões da América caribenha.

A sala da Ação, fala-se de história cultural, social e econômica. Uma grande caixa de objetos recebe o visitante, mostrando a vida cotidiana da região.

Na sala da Expressão, músicos em hologramas e seus instrumentos convidam o visitante a escutar (e porque não a dançar?) aos ritmos caribenhos, transformando o espaço do museu em local de memória sonora e afetiva.

MUSEUM OF THE CARIBBEAN

The new Museum of the Caribbean, in Barranquilla, Colombia, is part of the complex of the Cultural Park, in which one can also find the Historical Center, the Paseo de Bolívar and where the future Center of Conventions is to be build.

The Museum is has six floors, with five defined themes, in which the myths, traditions, nature and cultural identity of the Caribbean countries are adressed. The museum intends to provoke a permanent reflection about the past and the future, presenting the Caribbean culture through new technologies and innovative educational tools.

The first room, dedicated to Nature, shows the diversity of the ecosystems of the area, welcoming the visitor with the projection of spectacular images. An aisle tells the impressive history of the area's geological formation.

In the room dedicated to the People, the subject is the ethnical formation of the population, highlighting the first inhabitants and the miscegenation processes and the dialogues between different cultures.

The area with the subject Words shows the abundance of oral traditions and literary production of the Caribbean region. This rooms brings the contribution of the Colombian literature to the nation and will also feature a magic place, dedicated to Gabriel Garcia Marques, which will be opened to the public soon, showing the surroundings and the work of one of the greatest expressions of the Caribbean America.

The room dedicated to Action talks about the cultural, social and economy history. A big box of objects shows the everyday life of the region.

Expression zone is taken by holograms of musicians and their instruments, who invite the visitor to listen to the Caribbean rythms (and why not dance to them?), transforming the museum space into a place of sound and affective memories.
