ESPETÁCULO DE SOM E LUZ DA IGREJA DE NOSSA SENHORA DO CARMO
DA ANTIGA SÉ

Um dos símbolos da cidade do Rio de Janeiro, a Igreja de Nossa Senhora do Carmo da Antiga Sé é um verdadeiro marco histórico. Foi construída em 1763, sobre no local em que os carmelitas construíram a sua ermida, em 1589. Com a chegada da família real, ela passou de igreja conventual a capela real por sua proximidade com o Paço Imperial, residência da Família Real. Em 1900, o Cardeal Arcoverde transformou a Sé em Catedral Metropolitana do Rio, título que manteve até 1976. Até a Proclamação da República, era lá que se celebravam os casamentos e batizados reais.
A restauração da Igreja de Nossa Senhora do Carmo da Antiga Sé faz parte das comemorações dos 200 anos da chegada da Família Real ao país. O projeto foi custeado pela Prefeitura do Rio e realizado pela Fundação Roberto Marinho, com a cooperação técnica da Arquidiocese e do Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional (IPHAN). Foram 18 meses de trabalho para restaurar a igreja, recuperando as características de quando ela era capela real, no tempo de Dom João VI.
Para a entrega ao público, se programou um programa especial: um espetáculo de som e luz, com roteiro de José Roberto Torero e direção artística de Marcello DantaS. O roteiro conta a história da construção da Igreja e da chegada da Família Real. Destaca os grandes personagens da história da Antiga Sé, os que a criaram e os sque a freqüentaram e fizeram a história da Igreja e do país. O espetáculo de som e luz será permanente, diariamente em 2 horários e em um horário nos fins-de-semana.

SOUND AND LIGHT SHOW AT THE CHURCH DEDICATED TO OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL, THE FORMER CATHEDRAL

One of the symbols of the city of Rio de Janeiro, the Church of My Lady Senhora do Carmo da Antiga Sé is a true historical marc. Build in 1763, on top of the place where the carmelites erected their first ermyd in 1589, the church was nominated royal chapel with the arrival of the Portuguese royal family, because of its vicinity with the Imperial headquarters. In 1900, Cardinal Arcoverde transformed the church into Metropolitan Cathedral of Rio, title which it held until 1976. Until the proclamation of the Brazilian Republic, it was the location for the celebration of royal weddings and baptisms.
The restoration of the church is part of the commemorations of the 200 years of the arrival of the Portuguese Royal Family to Brazil. The project was financed by the city of Rio de Janeiro and carried out by the Roberto Marinho Foundation, with the technical cooperation of the archdiocese and the National Historical and Artistic Patrimony (Iphan). The restoration work took 18 months, recovering the characteristics of the times of Dom João VI, when the church was royal chapel.
For the opening to the public, a special program was developed um programa especial: a public show of sound and light, with a script by José Roberto Torero artistic direction of Marcello Dantas. The script tells the story of the construction of the church and of the arrival of the Royal Family. It points out the big characters of this history, the ones who created the church and the ones who attended and made the history of the church and the country. The sound and light show will be permanent, daily in two different horários on week days and on one horário on weekends.
